Sebastian Grunow

Sebastian Grunow

Senior Software Engineer

Sebastian is a passionate software developer and architect with a favour for cloud native solutions. With his problem solving mindset, he loves to dig into challenges and find fitting solutions that really tackle the issue at hand.

In his free time he loves to dive into the meditative peace in front of the fireplace. In order to balance out any stress from work, he to excercises regularly in the gym.

During summertime when the weather’s fine, he loves to take a ride on his bike. Sebastian enjoys inhaling nature while flying through the landscape.

With the age of 11 I bought my first programming book but stayed away from working as a professional developer for many years. Developing software and writing code really is a passion for me and I didn’t want to hurt it by working as a professional developer.

In the year 2014 I eventually enrolled in university of applied sciences. Shortly after I found my first job at an internet agency where I worked part time in a dual study model.

Connect on social

In the time at the internet agency I learned a lot about developing software for customers. As part of the scrum team I was responsible for consultation, requirements engineering and implementation of over ten different software projects.

Besides working full-time for customer projects, I consult developers in need of short term help. I also do code reviews for customers requiring aid in fulfilling their code quality goals.

My Skills

A little overview

In the past years I have worked on several projects with a lot of different techniques. The skills presented here are those I am most comfortable with to sell to clients. I am always learning and continue to improve other skills or learn something entirely new. Besides having an eye for quickly understanding challenging situations, I am a quick learner. Currently I improve my skills in the Rust language and learned Terraform within a week on-the-job.

My Customers

Companies I have worked for in the past

This is a little overview of companies I that I worked on projects for.

HEM Tankstelle

My task was the consultation and implementation of Sitecore XP configuration and modification. I also integrated several external systems, such as Bynder, SAP and job portal services.

ISS Facility Services

At ISS Facility Services I was contracted to support and continue the software development at the company. Due to bad luck the whole development team left the company within months. I continued the development of internal tools and trained the apprentices which were now without a teacher.

Me And My Pro

As part of my job at netzkern I invented the whole architecture of the MAMP platform. The tool provides lesson booking services as well as video editing capabilities. The videos edited on the web platform are rendered on the server side.

British Petrol

I was heavily involved in the process of inventing a cloud native architecture, first on Azure, then migrated to AWS due to a management decision. The tool implemented is responsible for updating prices at fuel stations all over the world.

Scanblue Engineering

At Scanblue Engineering my role was the knowledge transfer of Azure cloud services to the development team as well as creating concepts and supporting the implementation. I created a solution to collect and trace all logs and metrics from the IOT scanning devices using Application Insights and Grafana.

netzkern

My first employer where I learned most of what I am capable today. If you need a great website for your company, contact them!

Software Engineer

As part of a scrum team my tasks were, including but not limited to, requirements engineering, conceptualization and consulting. Most of the projects were based on the CMS solutions Kentico and Sitecore. But we also developed custom solutions and apps for various customers. My main responsibility was backend code, but I also implemented several frontends according to designer specs.

This is where I learned to quickly work myself into new problems and challenges and find solutions within budget. The projects were quite diverse, so I had to adapt on a daily basis. My tasks in this team included:

● Requirements Engineering and Conceptualization for customers.
● Consulting for new features and updates.
● Concepts for architectures of new solutions anmd features.
● Maintenance and improvement of code developed for customers as part of the scrum routine.
● Connect third party services (Payment, Newsletter, Jobportals, DAM solutions, etc.)
● Decisions for third party tools and libraries (open source, licenses, reading documentation, etc..)
● Creating user-aware solutions for CMS systems so editors have an easy life
● Customization of CMS systems
